The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards were held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York
Justin Timberlake was awarded the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, also performing a 15-minutes medley including a reunion with NSYNC, the first time in 9 years
Katy Perry released her lead single "Roar" for her third studio album, Prism. The song reached number 1 and sold 9.9 Million around the world.

Marin Alsop becomes the first woman to conduct the Last Night of the Proms. Nigel Kennedy performs Ralph Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending, and Joyce DiDonato is the soloist for the traditional performance of "Rule, Britannia!".
Sophie Ellis-Bextor is among the 15 celebrities competing in the opening round of the 11th series of Strictly Come Dancing.
